Community Leadership - Allie Kovacevich

Community involvement and giving to others is a very important part of my life. To highlight a few of my favorites, I will start with being chosen to design, create and paint part of a mural that is located in our downtown.  In addition, I participated in a “strikeout for cancer” softball game where our 3 middle schools came together to raise money for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation.  Not only did I play the game, I also bought the supplies, deigned and made over 100 bows to sell to help raise additional money.  This led to being featured in Baseball America, “For the Love of the Game” section, highlighting athletes that give back to their community.

My family, along with fellow Buckeye alums, has run a charity tailgate for many, many years.  This tailgate has raised thousands of dollars for several different organizations and families in need such as raising money for women with breast cancer, the leukemia foundation, military family in need, and women in financial distress with health issues. Yearly, myself, my family and our Buckeye tailgaters participate in one of my favorite charity events, Wagons HO, HO, HO.  This organization delivers Christmas hope to families in need.  We spend the day building wagons and filling them with food items to feed a family on Christmas.  This is such a fun-filled family event and the feeling I get when I build a wagon and see it filled with food is indescribable. There are many other ways I have given back, such as helping our Church by cleaning the nursery, sort gifts/toys for children over the holidays, using my own money that I’ve earned to buy toys for tots, and most importantly, praying for families in need.
